Introduced to contributors school by "Abo" Harris, a boy who lived in (then) Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and derived from the Chilapalapa (the lingua franca of the southern African mines) term "moshe steric" = very good, excellent. Rhodesian. Comes from the African word for "person"
Pronounced 'co-hog'. Originally(and still) a hardshelled clam. Cherrystone when small, tasty chopped, restuffed in the shell and baked when large. Used on the playground to signify stupidity and lack of style. ie "Did you see what he did? That quahog!", found only in Rhode Island US.
Jickies - English people. (ed: entered verbatim) I remember my parents and relatives (in Rhode Island) referring to English folk as "jickies" (NOT in a derogatory way) and never knew what it meant. About 15 years ago, because of a conversation with a co-worker, I started researching it and finally found someone (I think the arts and entertainment editor of the Providence Journal) who laughed when I asked about it and said it referred to a specific job some of the English did in the textile mills (in England???) and the job was using a "jickie" or something like that.
